The Scottish Highlands
Glens, sea lochs and single-track roads that ask you to slow down.
What makes it distinctive
The western Highlands combine mountains, sea lochs and white-sand beaches, with a light that changes by the minute. The roads are part of the experience and reward patience.

- May, June, July, August, September
- Seasons
- Late spring to early autumn has the longest days. Midges can be troublesome on still summer evenings in the west.
- Arrive
- Inverness (INV) or Glasgow (GLA). Fort William is roughly two hours by road from Inverness, and a little more from Glasgow.
- Getting around
- Many roads are single-track with passing places. Drive unhurriedly, pull in to let others pass, and allow more time than the map suggests.
- Ideal stay
